The Mark Morris Monarchs have taken one step closer to repeating as state champs by defeating the Toppenish Wildcats on Saturday afternoon in regional round play. Their balanced attack included four double digit scorers with Brooke Walling, Libby Bartleson, Zsaleh Parvas, and Alexis Troy recording 18, 14, and a dozen apiece respectively.
After facing an eight point deficit at halftime, Jenni Johnson (23 points, 6 rebound, 6 steals) and Janealle Sutterlict (13 points, 5 steals) led a third quarter charge that brought the Wildcats within a single bucket heading into the final quarter. Could Toppenish take the lead?
Midway through the final quarter, Parvas knocked down a three pointer following a blocked shot and outlet pass. She was fouled in the process and the bucket seemed to remove any remaining momentum the Cats still held. With the victory, Mark Morris will vie for back-to-back titles next weekend.
The Final Score
Mark Morris 65, Toppenish 55.
