All eleven Chargers scored in the opening game of the Kent Shootout to keep Kentridge on pace with Kentlake in the chase for the SPSL-Northeast crown. Coach Bob Sandall said Kent-Meridian’s “two post players are really good, and we just really had to try to take it away from them”. This strategy worked to Kentridge’s success as the Royals were limited to eight points in the first half. Tresai McCarver and JaQuaya Miller led the Chargers with 5 and 4 first half points respectively. They led KM 21-8 heading into the break.
One of the two skilled posts Coach Sandall referred to Savannah Lackey sparked the Royals in the third quarter with a half dozen points of her game-high ten points. However, the Kentridge guard combination of Bronte Fougere and Morgan Gary proved too much down the stretch as they pulled away to secure a comfortable win.
As the playoffs approach and Kentridge finds itself in position to make a run in February, playing well in a neutral site like the ShoWare Center can pay dividends later on. To this point, Coach Sandall stated, “It’s a nice change for the kids and us coaches as well…to play in a different environment is helpful.”
