SEATTLE, WA. - Seeing all of its 14-point lead in the second half disappear, the duo of senior Tyrann Stokes and ninth grader JJ Crawford made sure top-ranked Rainier Beach wasn’t going to experience heartbreak in its first home game of 2026.
Stokes, the consensus No. 1 recruit in the country in 2026, and Crawford, the son of NBA guard Jamal Crawford, combined for 20 of the team’s 22 fourth-quarter points, taking over in the final four minutes to lead the Vikings to an 85-74 victory over No. 2 Eastside Catholic on Monday night.
Stokes finished with a team-high 31 points and 13 rebounds, including a three-point play that gave the Vikings the lead for good (72-70) with 3:23 remaining. He tallied 11 points in the final 3 1/2 minutes.
Crawford canned three 3-pointers in the quarter, including one from the corner after Stokes’ three-point play to extend Rainier Beach’s lead to 75-70 with 2:43 to go. He finished with 24 points.
Senior post player Yabi Aklog, who led all scorers with 35 points, gave the Crusaders a 70-69 lead on a 10-foot shot at the 3:52 mark. But Eastside Catholic missed its next five field-goal attempts, and went scoreless for a 2 1/2-minute stretch.
