Timberline Keeps Peninsula Out of Endzone for Title Crown
By Steve Dion

The seventh and final week of league play to close the regular season proved necessary to determine the South Sound Conference winner as the Timberline Blazers played host to the Peninsula Seahawks at South Sound Stadium on Thursday night.

The battle at the line of scrimmage dictated the outcome of this contest as both offensive units struggled to find their groove for the majority of the game.

A Timberline drive late in the second quarter deep in Seahawk territory resulted in a 25 yard strike from Jacob Henning to Tariq Romain on fourth down.

Peninsula returned from the locker room ready to put a strong second half together as the opening kickoff was returned into the Blazers side of the field. Unfortunately the drive stalled and they settled for a Danny Jackson field goal from 35 yards out.

The Hawks defense stepped up yet again when Michael Campigotto picked off a deep Timberline pass and ran back a nice return. The Blazers did not allow that to bite them.

As the end of regulation was closing in, Peninsula had one final drive to punch it in. Brandon Potter took a pitch from the backfield inside the THS five yard line with less than a minute remaining.

The Blazer defense held their ground after that lapse and stuffed Peninsula the next three plays.

On fourth down, it was all or nothing. Quarterback Ryder Johnson drops back, scans his check downs, finds his target. Incomplete!

Timberline takes control and lines up in the victory formation to close out the game and claim the 2016 South Sound Conference Title!

The Final Score:
Timberline 7, Peninsula 3.
