Edmonds-Woodway Wins Shootout with Jackson
By Steven Dion

A 4A Wesco South battle on Friday between undefeated Edmonds-Woodway (3-0) and a hungry Jackson Timberwolves team (1-2) featured a late touchdown to break the deadlock. The first of many visits to the end zone came in the first quarter on a sprint to the pylon by Warriors tailback Junior Opoku-Mensah. Jackson responded on the ensuing kickoff for the score in the hands of Nick White. The next points on the scoreboard were courtesy of White again as he rumbled through several blockers en route to the goal line. Edmonds-Woodway began to run the wildcat offense in the second quarter as their halfbacks ran the ball on almost every down. Senior running back Mac McLachlan took direct snaps and pounded through Jackson defenders for big chunks of yardage. At the half, the contest was tied at 14 apiece.

The scoring see-saw continued throughout the third quarter as both teams scored receiving touchdowns by Travante Robinson and Theo Lebesis by Jackson and E-W respectively. A missed PAT by the Timberwolves gave the Warriors a one point lead going into the final quarter. Robinson notched six more points on a run in the final quarter for the third lead change of the game. The Wolves converted the 2-point conversion to regain a 7 point advantage. However, McLachlan shifted into overdrive as he busted loose for a game-tying score. Warrior senior Antonio Sherrill blocked a punt late into the fourth which resulted in Big Mac’s third and game-winning rushing touchdown with 28 seconds remaining. Edmonds-Woodway remains unbeaten as they continue league play into October.
